I will try to condense some of the Azure Announcements based on status &#8211; generally available, preview or update features.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Be aware that generally available features\/updates might incur costs. Anything that is part of a <a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/support\/legal\/preview-supplemental-terms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">public preview<\/a>, does not incur any costs, but also does not have <a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/support\/legal\/sla\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Service-Level Agreement (SLA<\/a>) attached to it.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\r\n<p>Last months article<\/p>\r\n<cite><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ituziast.com\/index.php\/2022\/06\/22\/azure-announcements-june-2022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Azure Announcements (July 2022)<\/a><\/cite><\/blockquote>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">General Availability Announcements<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Temporary access pass for Azure Active Directory<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Passwordless authentication methods, such as FIDO2 and Passwordless Phone Sign-in through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/security\/mobile-authenticator-app?WT.mc_id=ES-MVP-5002880\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Microsoft Authenticator app<\/a>, enable users to sign in securely without a password. Users can bootstrap Passwordless methods in one of two ways:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>Using existing Azure AD Multi-Factor Authentication methods<\/li>\r\n<li>Using a Temporary Access Pass (TAP)<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Temporary access pass\u00a0can be used to securely register passwordless methods such as phone sign-in, phishing resistant methods like FIDO2, and can even assist in Windows on-boarding (Azure AD Join and Windows Hello for Business). Temporary access pass makes recovery easier when you\u00a0have\u00a0lost or forgotten your\u00a0strong authentication methods and need to sign in to register new authentication methods.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\r\n<p>Additional information:<\/p>\r\n<cite><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/azure\/governance\/resource-graph\/how-to\/get-resource-changes?WT.mc_id=AZ-MVP-5002880\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Configure Temporary Access Pass | Microsoft Docs<\/a><br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/azure\/active-directory\/authentication?WT.mc_id=ES-MVP-5002880\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Azure Active Directory Authentication | Microsoft Docs <\/a><br \/><\/cite><\/blockquote>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Export device data under an organization in Azure IoT Central<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>You can now apply a filter to limit exporting device data including telemetry, property changes, and device events from devices under an organization in your Azure IoT Central data exports.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Many integration scenarios build on the IoT Central data export feature. An IoT Central application can continuously export filtered and enriched IoT data. Data export pushes changes in near real time to other parts of your cloud solution for warm-path insights, analytics, and storage.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>For example, you can:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>Continuously export telemetry, property changes, device connectivity, device lifecycle, and device template lifecycle data in JSON format in near real time.<\/li>\r\n<li>Filter the data streams to export data that matches custom conditions.<\/li>\r\n<li>Enrich the data streams with custom values and property values from the device.<\/li>\r\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/azure\/iot-central\/core\/howto-transform-data-internally?WT.mc_id=AZ-MVP-5002880\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Transform the data<\/a>\u00a0streams to modify their shape and content.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Currently, IoT Central export data to:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/azure\/iot-central\/core\/howto-export-to-azure-data-explorer?WT.mc_id=AZ-MVP-5002880\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Azure Data Explorer<\/a><\/li>\r\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/azure\/iot-central\/core\/howto-export-to-blob-storage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Blob <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/azure\/iot-central\/core\/howto-export-to-blob-storage?WT.mc_id=AZ-MVP-5002880\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Storage<\/a><\/li>\r\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/azure\/iot-central\/core\/howto-export-to-event-hubs\">Event <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/azure\/iot-central\/core\/howto-export-to-event-hubs?WT.mc_id=AZ-MVP-5002880\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hubs<\/a><\/li>\r\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/azure\/iot-central\/core\/howto-export-to-service-bus?WT.mc_id=AZ-MVP-5002880\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Service Bus<\/a><\/li>\r\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/azure\/iot-central\/core\/howto-export-to-webhook?WT.mc_id=AZ-MVP-5002880\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Webhook<\/a><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\r\n<p>Additional information:<\/p>\r\n<cite><a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/updates\/iotc-export-data-under-organization?WT.mc_id=AZ-MVP-5002880\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Generally available: Export device data under an organization in Azure IoT Central<\/a><\/cite><\/blockquote>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Azure SQL Database Hyperscale &#8211; Named Replicas<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>A named replica, just like an HA replica, uses the same page servers as the primary replica. Similar to HA replicas, there is no data copy needed to add a named replica.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The difference from HA replicas is that named replicas:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>Appear as regular (read-only) <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/azure\/azure-sql\/database\/sql-database-paas-overview?view=azuresql?WT.mc_id=AZ-MVP-5002880\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Azure SQL database<\/a>s in the portal and in API (AZ CLI, PowerShell, T-SQL) calls;<\/li>\r\n<li>Can have database name different from the primary replica, and optionally be located on a different logical server (as long as it is in the same region as the primary replica);<\/li>\r\n<li>Have their own Service Level Objective that can be set and changed independently from the primary replica;<\/li>\r\n<li>Support for up to 30 named replicas (for each primary replica);<\/li>\r\n<li>Support different authentication for each named replica by creating different logins on logical servers hosting named replicas.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\r\n<p>Additional information:<\/p>\r\n<cite><a href=\"https:\/\/techcommunity.microsoft.com\/t5\/azure-sql-blog\/azure-sql-database-hyperscale-named-replicas-feature-is\/ba-p\/3455674?WT.mc_id=AZ-MVP-5002880\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Azure SQL Database Hyperscale &#8211; Azure SQL | Microsoft Docs<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/power-platform-connector-ga?WT.mc_id=AZ-MVP-5002880\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><br \/>Sample to enable OLTP read scale-out using Named Replicas:\u00a0<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/Azure-Samples\/azure-sql-db-named-replica-oltp-scaleout\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Azure-Samples (github.com)<\/a><\/cite><\/blockquote>\r\n<h3>VM Applications \u2013 Manage and deploy applications to VMs and VMSS<\/h3>\r\n<p>VM Applications are a resource type in <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/azure\/virtual-machines\/shared-image-galleries?WT.mc_id=AZ-MVP-5002880\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Azure Compute Gallery<\/a> (previous name: Shared Image Gallery) that simplifies management, sharing, and global distribution of applications for your virtual machines.<\/p>\r\n<p>With VM Applications, you can\u00a0now define application packages,\u00a0replicate,\u00a0share\u00a0and deploy\u00a0them automatically to your VMs and Virtual\u00a0Machine\u00a0Scale Sets\u00a0using\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/azure\/virtual-machines\/vm-applications-how-to?WT.mc_id=AZ-MVP-5002880?tabs=portal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ARM templates, the portal, CLI, or\u00a0PowerShell<\/a>.\u00a0Add an application to a VM or VMSS at\u00a0creation, or add, remove, and update applications\u00a0on\u00a0existing resources.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>This feature provides flexibility and simplicity in managing, sharing, and deploying applications.\u00a0Some features include:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Support for pre-deployment applications settings, or a default configuration across all deployments.<\/li>\r\n<li>Deploy VM Apps to VM or VMSS across subscriptions using IAM.<\/li>\r\n<li>Package your applications and configuration in either page blobs or block blobs and replicate them across the desired regions.<\/li>\r\n<li>Proxies all packages to prevent direct access to any of the replicas from the VM.<\/li>\r\n<li>Ability to auto select \u201clatest\u201d available VM Apps version when installing an application.\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<blockquote>\r\n<p>Additional information:<\/p>\r\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/updates\/general-availability-vm-applications-manage-and-deploy-applications-to-virtual-machines-and-scale-sets?WT.mc_id=AZ-MVP-5002880\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">General availability: VM Applications \u2013 Manage and deploy applications to VMs and VMSS<\/a><br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/azure\/virtual-machines\/azure-compute-gallery?WT.mc_id=AZ-MVP-5002880\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Store and share resources in an Azure Compute Gallery | Microsoft Docs<\/a><br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/azure\/virtual-machines\/vm-applications?WT.mc_id=AZ-MVP-5002880\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">VM Applications overview | Microsoft Docs<\/a><br \/><br \/><\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Virtual machine restore points<\/h3>\r\n<p>Business continuity and disaster recovery (BCDR) solutions are primarily designed to address site-wide data loss. Solutions that operate at this scale will often manage and execute automated failovers and failbacks across multiple regions. Azure VM restore points can be used to implement granular backup and retention policies.<\/p>\r\n<p>VM restore points support application consistency for VMs running Windows operating systems and support file system consistency for VMs running Linux operating system. To obtain this preview, install the current version of Azure Stack HCI on a secondary (non-production) cluster, join the preview channel, and apply the free over-the-air update to version 22H2. Do not use this preview for production deployments. Client metrics including\u00a0requests per second and latency are now supported in addition to the previously available average response time and error percentage.<\/p>\r\n<p>The pass\/fail criteria can also be defined using aggregate functions (percentile, minimum, maximum etc.) on client metrics.
